The Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology’s (RIC) Infection Control Scope encompasses a comprehensive, evidence-based program aimed at preventing, controlling, and minimizing the spread of infectious agents within the healthcare setting.

 

Key Objectives

1. Education and Awareness: Educate healthcare workers, patients, and visitors on infection prevention and control practices.

2. Surveillance and Monitoring: Conduct surveillance to identify and track healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), including CLABSI, HAP, VAP, VAE, CAUTI, SSI, MDROs, and phlebitis.

3. Infection Prevention and Control: Implement policies, procedures, and practices to prevent and control HAIs, including hand hygiene, isolation precautions, and environmental cleaning.

4. Outbreak Investigation and Management: Investigate and manage outbreaks of HAIs, including identifying causes, implementing corrective measures, and advising hospital staff.

 

Scope of Activities

1. Infection Control Committee: Establish an Infection Control Committee to oversee infection control activities, develop policies, and review progress.

2. Surveillance and Reporting: Conduct surveillance and report on HAIs, including quarterly reports to the Executive Director.

3. Education and Training: Provide education and training to healthcare workers on infection prevention and control practices.

4. Environmental Cleaning and Disinfection: Ensure environmental cleaning and disinfection practices are in place to prevent HAIs.

5. Hand Hygiene: Promote hand hygiene practices among healthcare workers.

6. Isolation Precautions: Implement isolation precautions to prevent the spread of HAIs.

 

Accountability and Evaluation

1. Annual Report: Submit an annual report to leadership outlining progress and achievements.

2. Review and Revision: Review and revise the Infection Control Program annually or as needed.

3. Compliance with National Guidelines: Ensure compliance with national guidelines and standards for infection prevention and control.
